Canvas 101 for Students

1. Go directly to http:// jsr.my.vccs.edu/ or click on My Reynolds from the Reynolds home page at http://www.reynolds.edu/.

2. When the VIrginia's Community Colleges login screen appears, login with your My Reynolds username & multifactor authentication (MFA).

3. When the My Applications menu appears, click on the Canvas tile.

  • Click on Account from the menu on the left
  • Then click on Profile to add a profile photo or picture to your account. 
  • Click on the pencil icon to upload a photo or picture.

The navigation menu for any course on Canvas generally includes:

  • Home
  • Announcements
  • Syllabus
  • Modules
  • Grades
  • Zoom
  • Tutoring
  • Library Services

 

It is essential that you READ THE COURSE SYLLABUS for any course you are enrolled in the 1st DAY OF CLASS if not before. The syllabus is a course roadmap that will help you succeed in your classes. The syllabus contains the expectations for the course including:

  • course description
  • course learning objectives
  • course assignments and due dates
  • test dates
  • grading policy including how grades are weighted for each assignment and test
  • Other important information for the course

Examples of Course Syllabi:


  • Click on Calendar from the menu on the left to view when assignments are due in any class.
  • You can also create your own events in the Canvas calendar by selecting the  + (plus) sign located near the top right of the screen.

  • Click on Inbox from the menu on the left to read, reply to and compose email messages to your instructor or students from any class.
