Alma Training for Reynolds Libraries

Registering a community patron

These instructions are ONLY for creating a Community User completely unaffiliated with Reynolds only. DO NOT use this for a graduate, former student, or new student whose SIS records haven't yet made it into Alma. Also note that at this time, we are solely responsible for searching patrons affiliated with JSRCC: we do not have the ability to do a global VCCS user search. In the future, the Systems Office is going to explore the possibility of a unified, consortium level user search and management process.

First, search for a previous record of the user by searching for the patron in the Manage Patron Services screen. Please note you can enter their name in either order, First Name first, or Last Name first. Once you've verified they do not have an account, click on the "Register New User":



On the next screen, you will see a list of fields. The fields with red asterisks are required fields. Fill out all the required fields:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Primary identifier (library card barcode)
  • User group: Select "Community"
  • Expiration Date: Select 1 year from that day
  • Purge Date: Select 1 year from the expiration date 
  • Email 
  • Address (not a required field but please enter Address)
  • Phone number (not a required field but please enter if they can provide)

Click "Save" once you've entered all the above fields.

Please note: If you start with scanning the barcode into the "Primary identifier" field, you will be presented with warning messages that alerts you that you need to complete the remaining required fields:


The final step is to add a Driver's License number to the User's account. Click on "Edit User Info":


On the next screen, click "Full information": 

On the following page:

  1. Click on the "Identifiers" tab
  2. Click on "Add Identifier
  3. Select "Driver's License" and enter the number in the "Value" field
  4. Click "Add and Close"
